DesignerCon is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys, customs, plush, designer apparel and so much more with urban, underground and pop art! They are a celebration of all aspects from the world of design, and Freelance Creative was fortunate enough to participate.
big ups to Hoodfoot, Elyse Saunders, Dirty Donny, Good creative and others who chatted with me, hit up their page or ig and show them some love.
Super awesome collective killing it with their display, costumes, and super sick mixtape. Keep an eye out for animated and live action series!
Hoodfoot meets King Louix
Clothing and accessories company founded in salt lake city. some of the hottest patches I’ve seen anywhere, and trust me, I’ve seen a lot.
The largest exhibit at the show, I was floored by the concept, the quality and volume they had on display. did editions of some of my favorites. Flip through slideshow… lots to see here.
Elyse saunders is illustrator, virtual reality artist, and model from Toronto, Canada. we chatted for a few minutes and I learned that Elyse visited designercon last year and at the time she was only working in 2d illustration. her experience at designercon inspired her to get into 3d modeling. This year she returned to designercon with some of her modeling work in tow.
I audiotaped a portion of our chat which I’ve shared, alongside some of her art and photos of her figures I took that day. enjoy. please note: photos below are nsfw.
From dirtydonny.com - Deemed to be one of the most influential artists to invade the pop culture scenes of the punk, rock n roll and heavy metal underground, Dirty Donny has been spreading his art across all mediums for decades; ranging from skate decks to pinball machines, hot rods and album covers to name but a few.
It was a honor to see his art in person and talk about his hiatus, a fascinating concept that I think is very important for an artist’s longevity.
Spiritmade is a Hollywood artist that sculpts and paints in crayons. Some mind blowing shit here…. make sure to scroll through the carousel to see Van Gogh’s starry night miniature and other treats.
I’ve been a fan of pac-man since I can remember. I’ve also been a fan of japanese culture/art/aesthetics since as far as I can remember, so this was super special to me. big ups to good creative for a flawless brand execution for the upcoming 40th anniversary of Pac-man. I’m anxiously awaiting!
Thanks for the hospitality, and all the memories!
Designercon! See you next year!
